Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie

As a return to blogging, I'm going to start off with a review of a classic movie. I am a fan of an old TV show called Mystery Science Theater 3000, a show about some getting shot into space and forced to watch bad movies. It's better than it sounds. In fact, Time has named it one of the best shows of all time. In 1996, it was given a movie adaptation, aptly named Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie. So when this low budget cult classic show is given a blockbuster film, is it any good? Let's find out.

A Moment in Thought Returns

It's been a while, but I'll be returning to my blog, A Moment in Thought. I never really meant to leave it, it was a lot of fun doing it, but tight schedules get in the way. Hopefully, this time will be just as fun as it was before.

A couple of things will be a little different. I won't fully dedicate a huge blog on a single day. It will happen any day of week. Another thing is I will also have a Tumblr for things I don't have much to say, but something needs to be said. This website will still be my main site, and I will still post articles on The Net Dwellers and also on Manic Expressions, another new thing.
Tonight, I hope to get in a classic movie review and to get something posted on Tumblr. I hope to talk to you all soon. Have a good afternoon.

Monday's Moment: Tweet Your Tetris

As I'm trying to get back into the swing of things, I took a look around Slash Dot for some ideas. One thing I found is this Tetris demo. Click on the link to try it out.

Music Month Wrap-Up

Well, Music Month is over, and it didn't really turn out quite as planned. A couple of things ended up getting in the way, and I wasn't able to get an article in the past week. Everything's okay now, and I'll be able to start writing regularly again.

Skullcandy Skullcrushers

Earlier this month, my headphones broke. I thought this would be a good time to get some really good headphones. I went on Amazon and looked around. I finally narrowed it down to the Skullcandy Skullcrushers. Was it worth the fifty dollars I payed for them? Let' find out.

Monday's Moment: Whitney Houston

As you may of heard, singer Whitney Houston passed away last Saturday. She lived to be forty-eight years old and worked in the music industry for about twenty-five years. She was also an actress, model, and film producer. This will be a short article for the late singer and songwriter.

Whitney Houston started her singing career in 1985 with a self-titled album. While sales were slow at first, they really picked up after her second single and eventually sold twenty-five million copies, generated six singles total, and nominated in four categories at the Grammy's. She ended up winning Best Female Pop Artist out of those four nominations.

Whitney Houston continued on to make six more albums and host many concert tours, world tours, regional tours, and televised tours. She also appeared in multiple movies, commercials, and television shows, including the movie Sparkle which will be releasing later this year. She also produced some movies as well, including both of The Princess Diaries movies.

Whitney Houston will be remembered for many things. I think the one thing she will be most remembered by is singing "I Will Always Love You". The song was originally written by Dolly Parton in 1974, and Dolly's version of it was a slow, simple, and very sensitive song. It goes well with her voice because it's not that strong, but still beautiful nonetheless. Whitney Houston covered the song in 1992. It became one of her best selling singles and won multiple awards including Record of the Year at the Grammy's. While Dolly Parton's original version, as mention before, was soft and sensitive, Whitney Houston's cover was a very powerful ballad that matched the power in her voice. She took a great, meaningful song and revived it. That was the song she was known for, and I think that's the song she will be remembered by.

Whitney Houston was a great singer and songwriter, and it's unfortunate that she has left us. However, her legacy still lives on. Her work as a singer and actress is something to remember, and I think it will.

Circus Galop

This song is for the intense piano player. In fact, I don't think most piano players wouldn't even try to play this song. I believe if you look at the video below, you'll see why.

Interview with NoneLikeJoshua

To start off with Music Month, I had a sit down with NoneLikeJoshua, an independent rapper on Youtube who's well know for his rap remixes of dubstep songs who just released an album called "The Imperament". While I'm not a big rap fan, NoneLikeJoshua is different, with melodic backing tracks and insightful, and usually storytelling lyrics. As he's now in Canada working on a new EP, I talked to him over Skype and this is what he had to say about himself and his new album.

Coming Up: Music Month

This month is February, and I feel like doing something special for this month, so welcome to Music Month. All this month, I'll post music related thoughts. Hopefully, I'll also be able to do some interviews. I'm starting to ask some indie musicians, and I hope to get replies soon.

I'll take a look at some music and review those. Also, you can't listen to music without a good pair of headphones, so I'll review some headsets. I'll take a look at different ways to listen to music, like Pandora verses Last.fm, and many more things as well.

I love music, as you might guess, and I hope I like doing this as much. A lot more is to come starting Friday. I won't tell you what Friday's post is yet, but you'll find out soon enough.

Emergency Thought: 1,000,000

No, I didn't already hit one million views. It's the new song by Alexandra Stan and Carlprit. I heard it the day the music video was released on the Ultra Records Youtube channel. I found it when someone posted a bulletin about it. Why do I do my first Emergency Thought about it? Is it really good? Is it really bad? Let's answer that question.

Monday's Moment: Flight of the Conchords

Started in 1998, Flight of the Conchords is New Zealand's fifth most popular folk comedy duo, at least that's what they claim. This duo stars Jermaine Clement and Bret McKenzie, and they have gained a lot of popularity, with a BBC radio show and an HBO TV series both named after their band. Today, I'll look at the music side of their career, looking at their albums and the songs featured on the TV show. So, here are my thoughts on the music of Flight of the Conchords.

My Thoughts on Gentoo Linux

A while ago, I experimented with Gentoo Linux on my computer. I removed it though and put Arch Linux back on my computer. Even though I didn't have much time with it, I learned quite a bit.

I'll Drop the Plastic and Use the Vinyl

One thing I have noticed lately is that vinyl records are becoming popular again. I find this pretty interesting. Music CD's seem like they would be better in the year 2012, but maybe there is still something that makes people want to put a needle on a record.

Monday's Moment: Retsupurae

You did a Let's Play of a game. You upload to Youtube. You admit that the production qualities weren't the best ever, and maybe the commentary could be better, but you tried. Sometime later, you see a video with identical length and thumbnail. You click on it, and it is you're video, but there's extra people in it. They start cracking jokes and pointing out flaws. You ask yourself, "What is this?"

The answer to that question is a little think called Retsupurae. A group of people find sub-par Let's Plays or other video game related videos, and comment over them. In a way, they're like a modern day Mystery Science Theater 3000. Do these people know what there talking about? Can they really do better than the videos they comment over? Let's find out.

Sick with Gentoo Linux (But Not Sick of It)

Well, I intended to write Friday, but I ended up going to the doctor. Turns out I have infected sinuses and inflammation in my lungs. This kind of thing happens every year, so don't worry about me. Anyways, while getting sick, I've decided to get rid of Ubuntu and try something completely different. I've used Arch Linux before, but now I decided to go a step further and download Gentoo Linux. So far, it has been quite the undertaking.

A Foot in the Door

A couple of weeks ago, I bought a CD. It's called "A Foot in the Door", and it was by Pink Floyd. I'm a fan of Pink Floyd, so I decided to take a look at it. It turns out to be a greatest hits album. I don't have any of their music on CD, so that was why I got it. So today, we're going to take a look at it.

Monday's Moment: The Eye of Argon

Back on The Net Dwellers, I took a look at a couple of books. One was I, Libertine, a book that was a bestseller even though it didn't really exist. The other was Atlanta Nights, a terrible book meant to hoax publishing company Publish America. Today, I'll end this trilogy of books with The Eye of Argon by Jim Theis, one of the worst fantasy books in history. This book is well known by Science Fiction and Fantasy authors, and not only did the author live in my home state, but the story was also originally published in a newsletter that circulated in my region. So I have a lot of interest in this story. Let's take a look about how bad this really is.

Ubuntu Takes On the World (At Least Google and Apple)

I finally decided to catch up on some Linux related updates, and a few interesting things came up. One really interesting thing, in my mind at least, was the updates that Canonical, the company that makes the Linux operating system Ubuntu, made. I used Ubuntu for a while, stopped, then came back to it being a little different from what I remember, but I've gotten used to it now. There are three updates that I like to talk about today.

Welcome!

Welcome to A Moment in Thought. This is a project helping to take up some spare time. If you found me on The Net Dwellers, greetings from there. If you haven't been there, go check it out. I'll be doing exclusive blogs for both here and there so keep track on both sites.
Here, the concept is quite simple. I just take a moment to think about something, and blog about it. Usually, I'll also end on a question relating to the topic, and I want to engage the readers and hear your responses to it.
These are my thoughts and mine alone. They do not necessarily reflect the thoughts of Blogger, The Net Dwellers, or anyone else for that matter. This blog is for entertainment purposes only. Please give credit when using or quoting any post I make.
Now on that note, let's start blogging. If you like it, tell you're friends or link to me.
