Emergency Thought: 1,000,000

No, I didn't already hit one million views. It's the new song by Alexandra Stan and Carlprit. I heard it the day the music video was released on the Ultra Records Youtube channel. I found it when someone posted a bulletin about it. Why do I do my first Emergency Thought about it? Is it really good? Is it really bad? Let's answer that question.

When I clicked on the link, I was greeted by a fairly catchy tune. It wasn't very melodic. In fact, it was a little minimalist. I thought it was just the beginning of the song, so it might be building up. Carlprit starts off introducing himself and Alexandra, like many rappers do, and he sings the opening verse. He seemed very sluggish and off rhythm. He also forces the rhyming of "million" and "brilliant". My hope for the song starts to decline as he continues to attempt to rhyme with the initial "million", eventually hitting it on the dot with "billion". Todd in the Shadows has already pointed out in his review of "Imma Be" that it doesn't take a lyrical genus to figure that rhyme out.

I still had some hope with this song. Then the chorus came in. Which involves Alexandra Stan repeating the word "million" over and over until it's pounded into your head. Unfortunately, the song has not changed from the first few seconds of the intro. It's obvious that chorus writing isn't Alexandra's strong point, but maybe she's a better verse writer.

The second verse starts off with, "`Cause love can bring you down. (Oh no, Oh no) Every time you come around. (Oh no. Million. Million)" This line is a little confusing, not to mention "down" doesn't rhyme with "around". She goes on to say that she knows this for sure. She might have explained why if the chorus didn't chime in. Which leaves the explanation to be, "Million." Not the most specific explanation, but I say take what you can from it. I didn't take much.

After that, I suppose the song hits its bridge. Not really much to say about this part besides someone in the background whispering, "One in a million". I don't think it's much of a secret. I don't know what the secret is, but it involves a million, which that has already been beat to death.

After that, Carlprit says the exact same verse from the beginning. Once again, there's not much to say. Carlprit does seem a little more on tempo, so that's a good thing.

Then the song hits another bridge. This one is more definite though in the fact that the song actually changes for once. Alexandra gets back on the mic telling this person to dance with her and make her feel like one in a million. I don't know what to say at this point. I'm still trying to pull my jaw off the ground from the first chorus. It starts building up back to the chorus. If the word "million" still has any meaning at this point, you are stronger than me. After that, the song ends as quickly as is started, leaving me with the question, "What was that?"

I am beside myself after listening to this song. While both Alexandra Stan and Carlprit have a lot of confidence, it wasn't put into good use. Even though the song has no value to it, uses the word "million" until it looses all meaning, and doesn't tell anything about anything, I'm not going to say this is the worse song of the year. It's far too early to say that. If you don't believe me, click on the embed above.
